Episode Guide - Season 8

 169 * Comet's Excellent Adventure

The Rippers are tired of Jesse's personal life getting in the way of rehearsals, and how he's lost his passion for the music. As a result, they unanimously vote him out of the band. Jesse, who is hurt, embarks on a mission to prove that he doesn't need them anymore. When Michelle asks Jesse if she can walk Comet, even though she is not allowed to, he absentmindedly gives her permission. While she's out doing so, Comet escapes from her. When Stephanie notices Michelle all by herself, she explains what happened. The two cross the street together to look for him. A hungry Comet is seen chasing a car with a giant hot dog on it, until he sees a lady dog and the two run away together. Meanwhile, near the Golden Gate Bridge, D.J breaks up with Nelson Burkhard, the teenage millionaire that she has been dating. When Stephanie and Michelle tell her the bad news, Nelson allows the girls and Kimmy to borrow his limo to aid the search. Just then, the two dogs are seen aboard a cable car. Back home, Jesse and Joey are working on a one-man band, when they get a phone call from Michelle. Joey also helps as he, Jesse, Nicky and Alex endlessly drive around to look for the family dog. Also, Danny and Becky are doing an episode of Wake Up, San Francisco at Aquatic Park, where everyone joins up and interrupt the broadcast in hopes that Comet is watching a TV. He is, and returns home. Later, in the backyard, Jesse confesses to Michelle how guilty he feels for letting her walk Comet by herself, as he was not thinking correctly and she could have been hurt. Suddenly, Comet walks in the backyard, and they alert the family. Everyone hugs, kisses, and pets him.

 170 * Breaking Away

A brand new schoolyear is approaching rapidly. This year D.J and Kimmy are at last high school seniors, and Kimmy is already stressing about getting a date to senior prom. Also, it does not seem that long ago when Danny was nostalgically taking his youngest daughter, Michelle, to preschool. But now, four years later, it is Jesse and Becky's turn to have the nostalgic freak out as their twin boys approach this important and exciting childhood milestone. With Becky's emotionally unstable reaction to the boys heading to school for the very first time, Jesse offers to accompany them to their classroom. But not before long, a string of events prompts Jesse to transform his children into the youngest dropouts in San Francisco. He later explains to Becky that he did not feel ready to send the boys out into the brand new world without them. Though the boys express that they actually really liked preschool. The next day, Jesse and Becky both successfully drop off the boys at school, to witness that the boys are very happy there. Meanwhile, Gia Mahan's continued influence inspires Stephanie to assert herself with her father. She has started dressing like Gia, wearing her make-up like Gia and intentionly leaving her and Michelle's room a messy, dirty dump. This prompts Michelle to move herself and her stuff back into what was her room, and has been, for the last few seasons, D.J's room, to roommate with her other big sister. But when have you ever seen Danny react calmly to a dirty bedroom, midriff-baring outfits and his daughters clashing? Well, it may just take a little 'subtle psychology' to get Stephanie to change her preteen ways.

Stephanie arrives at the party with Pictionary, not knowing exactly what kind of party it is. It turns out to be an unsupervised make-out party, and she feels akward having to kiss Bobby at length. She definitely does not feel ready for this yet. Meanwhile, Danny is stricken with a really bad case of laryngitis and is unable to speak at all, much to everyone in the house amusement. However, he feels even more speechless than he already is upon discovering that Stephanie having lied to him about going to a make-out party at Gia's apartment. At the party, Stephanie phones home to who she think is D.J and ask her to pick her up, but Danny is the one who aswers the phone and shows up at Gia's apartment to rescue her. When Claire also suddenly get home early, all the kids flee the place. Stephanie and Gia are sent off to Gia's room, while Claire and Danny have a talk about their daughters while Danny is given a home made mixture to help with his laryngitis. Also, Jesse is deeply bothered by the fact that the new lead singer for the Rippers is Brady Bunch's Barry Williams, because The Rippers somewhat seem to be having a lot more success with Barry than they ever did with Jesse. They already have a number one radio hit single straight away as well as a ton of important gigs lined up. He is tempted to swear off music, and during a horrible nightmare, Jesse imagines his future without music when he decides to quit singing.

Michelle thinks it is going to be fun to have Joey as the substitute, though he reminds her that he's to be addressed as 'Mr. Gladstone'. The class gets out of control. Joey says the next person who talks or makes a noise will be sent to the principal's office. That next person happens to be Michelle, who asks Joey to lighten up, eliciting gasps from her classmates. Michelle then gets upset with him on her way to the principal's office, saying 'Thanks a lot, Mr. Gladstone. I thought you were my friend'. Then she thinks of a way to get back at Joey for scolding her in front of the class. When they both get home, they explain to Danny what happened, and Danny sends Michelle upstairs to her room. Later, Michelle gets the class to agree to give Joey the silent treatment. Joey tricks the class into talking to him again, and Michelle apologizes and admits to Joey that he's so funny that she had forgotten that sometimes he has to be serious. Michelle explains that they came across a traveling petting zoo, where she bought Shorty for $221, and she can't take him back. Danny realize he has no choice but to let Shorty stay the night, and decide what to do with him in the morning. While everyone is asleep, Shorty starts braying. They stop for the night at Manny's Motel, which is where Jesse and the Rippers stayed an odd number of years ago while on tour. Although Jesse has fond memories of the place, he soon realize the place is by far the same as it was back then. The motel has gone downhill since, and Jesse becomes preoccupied with feeling old. After hearing Gia say that her mom would not want another kid like her, Michelle decides to dress like a rebel/bad girl, with a ton of makeup, jewelry, and a punk rock hairstyle – and the attitude to go with it. She shows that attitude to Claire so that she will stop dating Danny. But when she also gives that attitude to Danny, he is not happy about that at all and makes her change back to her normal clothes. Michelle then explains to Danny how Stephanie and Gia thinks it would be cool if Danny and Claire got married and make Stephanie and Gia stepsisters, and how it would leave her out in the cold. Danny tells her that no one is leaving her out in the cold, but Michelle feel that Stephanie already did. Danny tells Stephanie that he does not like what he is hearing about her behavior towards Michelle. Kimmy spends the night in D.J's bedroom, but accuses D.J of ruining her night. However, that does not stop them from explaining each other's side of what happened, and it turns out, D.J knows exactly what happened, and thus led her to snatch the keys out of Kimmy's hand and drive them home herself. Luckily, Kimmy's attitude changes and she apologizes to her friend after D.J explains that it was a drunk driver who caused the car accident in which her mother, Pam, passed away, and D.J says that she was not about to lose Kimmy the same way. Meanwhile, Nicky and Alex are bugging Michelle so much that she ends up getting mad and snapping at them, causing them not to like her anymore. The reason why the boys can't forgive Michelle is that Nicky and Alex do not know the definition of the word 'forgive'. So, Jesse and Joey attempt to teach them what it means, but it gets wild. Luckily, Becky steps in to interrupt the lesson before things get out of hand. Finally, Michelle tells Nicky and Alex that forgiveness means that they know she is sorry for what she did and that they will give her another chance because they love each other. Realizing that Michelle is right, Nicky and Alex then tell her they forgive her, and they hug.  186 * We Got The Beat

Jesse is glad to hear that Stephanie and her friends, Gia and Melissa, as well as Kimmy, have formed a band. They call themselves Girl Talk, with Kimmy on keyboards, Stephanie on guitar, Gia on bass, and Melissa on drums. They plan to compete in the Wake Up, San Francisco Young Talent Search at The Smash Club. Jesse agrees to be their manager as they prepare for the talent show. To the band, though, looking good seems to be more important than sounding good. He reminds them that if they want to be a band, and win, they have to rehearse over and over. When they think that he is too strict, they decide to fire him, which means the girls have to do it all on their own. For an economics project at school, D.J invests fictional money, and her success impresses Danny and Joey so much that they start investing real money. In the talent contest, Stephanie feels absolutely humiliated when she and her band mess up during their performance, because they failed to rehearse enough. Michelle's friends Derek Boyd and Lisa Leeper, who sings a duet, win the contest. In the Smash Club's office Stephanie admits to Jesse that he was right when he suggested that she and the band should practice in order to improve their sound before performing. She adds that he was right to be hard on her in order to motivate her, and he agrees. He even gives her an example of how he and his friends focused more on their looks rather than their sounds. He is relieved to know that the humiliation has not turned her off to music, and is more than happy to help her on her talents - not as her manager, but as her uncle. They hug and then leave the office.

188 * Up On The Roof

D.J wants to pull an elaborate senior prank on Principal Robolard so she can leave behind a lasting legacy, and she would like to outdo the legendary prank that Jesse pulled on Principal Robolard back when he was in high school. He used a fishing pole and chewing gum to grab the toupee off of Robolard's head while Robolard drove his classic red 1957 Chevrolet convertible under a freeway overpass, then Jesse ran the toupee up the school's flagpole. In order to pull a more elaborate prank on Robolard, D.J gets Kimmy's boyfriend Duane to use a crane to lift Robolard's 1957 Chevy convertible on the roof of the school. The trick is on the verge of backfiring when an incoming thunderstorm becomes a threat to destroy the car's interior. Luckily, Jesse, D.J and Kimmy are able to get to the car just in time to close the top and cover the upholstery. A security guard takes them to Robolard's office, where D.J tells him the reason why she did what she did, that she wanted to show everyone that she had guts and wanted to leave behind a legacy. Robolard then lets D.J in on a little secret - he actually likes seeing who can pull the best senior prank on him every year. D.J is surprised at his confession. Then, after Jesse asks why Robolard was going to send him to jail when he thought he was the culprit, Robolard reveals that he never liked Jesse, and confesses it's because Jesse has the hair that Robolard had always wanted. Meanwhile, Becky offers to teach Michelle how to cook, but the guys doubt Becky's cooking ability. Luckily, Becky and Michelle end up doing a halfway decent job when they cook dinner, and everyone, including Comet, likes it.

 189 * Leap Of Faith

On Wake Up, San Francisco, Danny and Becky have a special guest named Edna, an elderly, feisty woman who, despite her age, still goes bungee-jumping. Edna invites Danny and Becky to jump with her. While Danny declines, Becky accepts Edna's offer, as she is inspired to spice up her own life with this thrilling new experience. However, although Jesse ironically has always been a bit of a risk-taker himself, he hits the roof when Becky decides to accept Edna's invitation and get the crew of Wake Up, San Francisco to videotape the jump. Jesse does his best to talk her out of it, but his efforts only result in friction between them. Finally, after a talk with Joey about it, Jesse decides that Becky is right, and he and Becky then end up doing the jump together. Meanwhile, Joey accidentally wins two tickets to a Counting Crows concert, so he decides to give the tickets to D.J. and Stephanie. However, Michelle feels like she is always being left out while her sisters get to do cool things. To decide who is and isn't going, Joey presents three licorice sticks, one of them half-eaten, and whoever gets that won't go. Stephanie gets that, meaning Michelle gets D.J roped into taking her to the concert when D.J. would much rather take Stephanie. D.J and Stephanie set out to trick Michelle into giving the ticket back to Stephanie, telling her she is sick and has Schmendrick's disease. Michelle does give the ticket back to Stephanie, but not without learning why she wanted to go to the concert in the first place. D.J and Stephanie have their guilty consciences kicking in, and promise to include Michelle with them more often whenever they do something cool.

Ryan stuns Stephanie by apologizing and asking if they can start fresh, making an offer of pizza at the mall. Stephanie learns that Danny had a talk with Ryan, thinking that the only reason Ryan asked her out is because Danny threatened him. She decides to stand Ryan up. Later, Ryan comes over and Stephanie explains herself to Ryan. Ryan explains that Danny did not threaten him and just made him realize his errors. Stephanie apologizes for standing Ryan up at the mall, and the two agree to start over with each other. Meanwhile, a doctor from an insurance company tells Jesse that his blood pressure needs to be lowered, so Jesse tries to relax in the backyard. However, it is not long before the peace is disturbed by Kimmy Gibbler practicing playing the bagpipe. One sound leads to another, and there is soon a war of loud music taking place in the backyard, with Jesse also being terrorized by an ostrich that Kimmy is taking care of. Also, Michelle tries to find a game that will give her a chance to beat D.J at something for once. She tries with a hula-hooping competition, with D.J having her choose between doing it on the neck, waist, or feet; loser feeds Comet for two weeks.
