Underground

Underground was an American television period drama series that was created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski about the Underground Railroad in Antebellum Georgia.
The show debuted March 9, 2016, on WGN America. On April 25, 2016, WGN renewed the show for a 10-episode second season, that premiered on March 8, 2017. On
May 30, 2017, it was announced that WGN had canceled the show after two seasons. The cancellation came after the network's parent company Tribune Media was
attempted to be purchased by conservative corporation Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which led to speculation that the latter did not approve of the subject matter of the
show. With the country on the brink of Civil War, the struggle for freedom is more dangerous than ever. Underground follows the story of American heroes and their
   moving journey to freedom,
with legendary Harriet Tubman blazing the trail. The plot of the show largely focused on a courageous blacksmith slave named Noah (Aldis Hodge), a driven, perceptive, and restless slave on the Macon plantation, and one of the Macon 7, who covertly organizes a small group of fellow slaves and pieces together a daring plan of escape across hundreds of miles to freedom. The odds of success are razor-thin for those who make it off the plantation, while the risks, dangers and obstacles only multiply each step of the
way. Among other characters we get to know throughout the series are also Roselee (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), a young, shy, and sheltered house slave on the Macon plantation, also one of the Macon 7; Elizabeth Hawkes (Jessica Du Gouw) a socialite with abolitionist ideals and John Hawkes (Marc Blucas), an abolitionist lawyer.
